No Tax Hikes = Snake Oil Politics?!?

Memo to President Obama: when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging!

President Obama continues to flail away at Republicans, accusing them of "peddling snake oil", primarily due to their refusal to raise taxes on high-income Americans.
"...Obama accused Republicans on Monday of peddling "snake oil" in their campaigns to gain power in Congress on November 2 and urged Democrats to get motivated about the elections.

Obama appeared at two Democratic fund-raisers that raised $1 million at the seaside home of former NBA basketball star Alonzo Mourning. The crowd included such NBA luminaries as Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and former player Magic Johnson.

In a pair of speeches, Obama singled out the "Pledge to America," a list of priorities House Republicans say they will pursue if they win control of the House in the elections.

He said a Republican push for an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans would include $700 billion for wealthier citizens, money he said would be better spent helping to bolster the sagging U.S. economy.

Obama wants to limit the tax cuts to families making under $250,000 a year and a fierce partisan battle is being waged over their future. "They are peddling the same snake oil as they were peddling before," Obama said."

This type of rhetoric is not going to sway many American towards thinking that President Obama can "fix" the economy.

Instead of trying to get the federal government off of the backs of Americans, he is proposing to do just the opposite.

Unlike Obama's view, most rational people would agree that higher taxes do not bring prosperity. Unless your view of prosperity is the former workers paradises of the USSR, East Germany, etc., where tax rates were effectively 100%.

It's no wonder why the Democratic Party is headed for a historic beat-down in just a few weeks.

Poverty Soaring During Obama Administration

What?!? This can't possibly be. Poverty is soaring while the Democrats have near complete control of our federal government? But, but, but...aren't their policies so compassionate, so brotherly to the less well-off and shouldn't they be making us a more egalitarian state???
"The number of people in the U.S. who are in poverty is on track for a record increase on President Barack Obama's watch, with the ranks of working-age poor approaching 1960s levels that led to the national war on poverty.

Census figures for 2009 — the recession-ravaged first year of the Democrat's presidency — are to be released in the coming week, and demographers expect grim findings.

It's unfortunate timing for Obama and his party just seven weeks before important elections when control of Congress is at stake. The anticipated poverty rate increase — from 13.2 percent to about 15 percent — would be another blow to Democrats struggling to persuade voters to keep them in power.

"The most important anti-poverty effort is growing the economy and making sure there are enough jobs out there," Obama said Friday at a White House news conference. He stressed his commitment to helping the poor achieve middle-class status and said, "If we can grow the economy faster and create more jobs, then everybody is swept up into that virtuous cycle."

Of course, none of this should be any surprise to anyone who believes that stealing money from one group of people and giving to members of another group is no way to alleviates the latter's long-term issues.

Democrats have long advocated this approach, using the tax code as their personal blunt weapon, in order to justify taking from productive members of society and giving to those who are less industrious, less thrifty or prone to making poor personal decisions, and who are poorer as a result.

Democrats should heed the lesson and begin to focus their time and energy on ways to significantly lessen the federal government's drag and influence on the overall economy, which would almost instantly result in a recovery in jobs that would astound even the most fervent free-marketers and completely reverse the lapse into recession that we have experienced over the past couple of years.

Areas they should focus on are reducing the length of time that unemployment can be claimed, eliminating the federal minimum wage rate, relaxing drilling rules in the US and slashing corporate, personal and capital gains tax rates (and making commensurate cuts in federal spending at all departments and levels).

Democrat-controlled House in Jeopardy?

President Obama's spokesman Robert Gibbs said over the weekend that the Democratic Party's control of the US House of Representative may be lost following elections in November.
"President Barack Obama's party could lose its House majority in this fall's elections, his spokesman said Sunday, perhaps trying to jolt Democratic voters with the specter of GOP lawmakers rolling back White House policies.

"I think there's no doubt there are enough seats in play that could cause Republicans to gain control. There's no doubt about that," press secretary Robert Gibbs told NBC's "Meet the Press."

Democrats now hold a 255-178 edge in the House, with two vacancies in the 435-member chamber. Anywhere from 40 to perhaps 60 House seats could be competitive by the fall. Republicans would need to take back about 40 seats to slip into the majority, placing the current GOP leader, Ohio Rep. John Boehner, in line to replace Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., as speaker."

Let's face it. Democrats deserve to get slaughtered in the upcoming elections. At some point, they have to be held accountable by the American people for the economic mess we find ourselves in.

Unemployment has staggered up to 10% on their watch, and has stubbornly stayed in that range. Democratic policies have been designed to "preserve jobs" at the expense of creating a hospitable environment of low taxes and overall low governmental interference in business.

Not to mention their decades-long approach of rewarding their supporters with government largess or boondoggles, which has only expanded our public debt.

Their legacy of constantly expanding the reach and cost of government is precisely why as a country we are in this economic bind we find ourselves in.

Although dramatically restricting the ability of government to meddle in our lives is ultimately the correct way to put the country back on the road to prosperity and freedom, booting Democrats from office come November would be an excellent start.

Democrats Plummeting in Polls

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll shows that Americans increasingly do not think Democrats are up to the task of fixing the economy.
"A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Thursday indicates 48 percent of Americans say Republicans in Congress would do a better job dealing with the economy, compared to 45 percent for Democrats. That's a switch from last August, when Democrats held a 52 percent to 39 percent advantage on the economy."
Some of the decline of course can be attributed to the fact that Democrats now "own" the state of the economy, at least more so than when they originally took control of Congress and the White House.

But their declining poll results also have to be attributed to the policies they have enacted since taking office en masse, health care in particular. Voters know that the health care mandate is no panacea for a slumping economy, and will heap untold costs on companies that are forced to comply with its provisions.

Unfortunately however, voters think Republicans are potentially the answer to the country's economic woes.

Although some of the Republican policies are pro-growth and helpful, the only way to get back to a truly sound, thriving economy is by eschewing Republicans and Democrats alike and going with the freedom-loving, free market Libertarians (Ron Pauli in particular).
